Sept. 25 - 28

 Bonjour!

Our thank you cards created last week made their journey over to Sam Livingston School! We were so excited to share our French words and thanks with our CBE neighbors.

This week, all classes had a chance to reinforce our learning around French numbers. We played "Rock, Paper, Scissors, Addition!" Where dtudents had to shoe a number of fingers instead of rock, paper, or scissors, and then add the two amounts together and say the number in French. Grade 4 counted with one hand each, and practiced their numbers to 10. Grade 5 worked up to using 2 hands and added up to 20. And Grade 6 played an elimination round with added adrenaline!

We also reviewed (for grade 6) and learned about basic pronouns for I, You, He, She, They, We, and the special pronouns for "a group of girls" and "a group of boys" used in French. After drawing these in our visual journals or French folders, we played a version of "Simon Says" where we had to point to the correct pronoun around the room.

Sept. 18 - 22

 Bounjour!

This week, we continued our work with the calendar and asking and responding to questions about the date. Students had the opportunity to pair up and use their new vocabulary with a classmate and some students demonstrated how to ask and respond in french to the rest the class.

All grades had the opportunity to write thank you cards to Sam Livingston School which generously donated French books to Andrew Sibbald. Students had the opportunity to plan their card in their visual journal and explore new words and then create a card afterwards.

Sept. 11 - 15

Bonjour les classes!

This week grade 4 and 5 finished their Tout Sur Moi banners and had an opportunity to use this language in class.

All classes had the opportunity to play hangman or snowman to demonstrate their rknowledge of learned French words and translate for a partner.

As part of our school-wide learning around the book "The Power of One" we talked about how we can make a difference and be kind to our classmates learning another language. Students brainstormed one kind act and added it to our collective board at the end of the week.

Grades 5 and 6 finished their Fleur De Lys art, and can now compare their lily flower to the important French Fleur De Lys symbol and see where the resemblance comes from.

Septembre 5 - 8

To kick off our week, all classes participated in a game where we learned to introduce ourselves and ask for others names. Our "Je m'appelle" GA is also a challenge to see how fast everyone in the class can introduce themselves!

Grades 5 and 6 are almost finished their "Tout Sur Moi" banners. These will help us with key vocabulary about ourselves, as well as help us to identify "Les Mots Similaire" which we have been identifying as they are identified.

For Friday, grade 5's and 6's learned about the symbol of Le Fleur de Lys. And we began to draw this in our visual journals. Pictures to come!

Welcome to French Grade 4, 5, and 6!

We are so excited to kick off the year with French for grades 4, 5, and 6. This year French will be taught by myself (madame V) with opportunities to collaborate with other classes and teachers. To start off our year we will be learning how to introduce ourselves and begin a conversation. This will be new for our grade 4's and great review to build on for our returning grade 5's and 6's. As the year progresses grades will divide into specific learning outcomes, so I will specify which grades are learning what in our weekly posts. I look forward to exploring the French language through a host of activities, projects, and arts this year.

Au Revoir!
