 Bonjour les familles!

All grades had the opportunity this week to experience some pop songs in French! Sung by kids in UNISEF. We enjoyed identifying some words that have become familiar to us this year. These songs are available by Kids United on Youtube.

This week, grade 4's and 5's began learning about the house, and rooms of the house. After learning some key vocabulary and brainstorming some room names, students had the opportunity to design their dream home, labeling each room with the correct French identifier.

Grade 6's are also reviewing the vocabulary around homes by completing the same activity as grade 4 and 5, with the extension of using nature and landscape vocabulary to describe the area around their dream home.

Joyeuse Saint Valentin! / Happy Valentines Day!

For the week of Valentines Day, we looked at the verbs Aimer, and Adorer, which mean to like, and to love. Students practiced using the verb Aimer by doing a survey on their classmates asking them "do you like -------?" In French and recording answers. We also practiced reading and writing sentences with Aimer related to our own preferences.

Classes for 4 and 5 who had a second day of French also had the opportunity to write a valentines day card in French, to give to a family member during the long weekend or Family Day. Vocabulary was covered as a whole class and explored using the French English dictionaries. Photos of work to follow! We will continue to use Aimer and Adorer to express our likes and dislikes as we begin new topics in the following weeks.

 Joyeux Carnival!

This week we celebrated the Quebec Winter carnival known as Carnival. Students explored topics and vocabulary by viewing videos and media from Quebec, and then created their own parade masks to wear during our games. Students had the opportunity to go outside with their grade and participate in some common Carnival games such as the "ice-lake canoe race", ""ax toss", and hockey mini golf. We also had a special Sirop D'Erable treat which is traditional for Quebec. Here are some photos from all grade teams during their Carnval days.
